American Revolution
Complete Game Rules - Page 6

Slash and Burn:

In order for the British to not suffer partisan actions in cities (see below) the British may slash and burn a city. What happens is that the British have destroyed the city to prove to everyone that the British have total control. The British will then no longer receive any partisan actions in those cities that have been slashed and burned. Also the amount that the territory is worth gets reduced to zero (0). However if the British player does this it will have its consequences. If the British player slash and burns Boston, 3 other American cities or 15 non city territories then the American populace will unite for the American cause (causing the partisan table two to be in effect for the rest of the game rather than partisan table 1). If the British player continues to slash and burn unilt they have slash and burned a total of 6 cities or Boston and 4 cities the third partisan table comes into effect. If the British player slashes and burns more than 7 cities or Boston and 5 cities it is a loss for the British as even if they win the war it would cost so much to fix the colonies that they are better off without them. So if you are near that number, the British player needs to pay close attention to where they dare to have their Hessian troops go.

The British can slash and burn non-city territories as well. If they do so those territories may no longer produce Militia or Infantry. However if General Washington is in the territory he still may produce one for free (see General Washington’s Special Ability). For the British to Slash and Burn a territory the British must be in possession of that territory and have at least 5 Infantry units or 1 Hessian unit there. Slashing and burhing a territory consumes the action of those troops for the turn.

Partisan Actions

These are the actions that the local people take against the British in America in territories that the British have occupied. When ever the British are in a territory that once belonged to America the locals will take shots at them all the while being in there (this excludes Canadian territories). The likelihood of losses will depend on the value of the resource value of the territory those British units are in. At the end of each turn roll a D10 for each American territory that is British Occupied. Whenever there is a hit, it is only one hit. Partisan actions do not apply to Indian occupied territories. The game begins on Partisan Table #1.

Partisan Table #1
Territory Roll for hit on a D10. Roll once per occupied territory.
Resource Value 0: - 10
Resource Value 1: - 9-10
Resource Value 2: - 8-10
Resource Value 3: - 7-10
Resource Value 4: - 6-10
Resource Value 5: - 5-10
Boston Always 1 hit

If however the British player uses slash and burn (see slash and burn for British special rules) the partisans will increase where they can. To get to the Partisan Table #2 the British player must slash and burn 3 cities, 15 non city territories or just Boston.

Partisan Table #2
Territory Roll for hit on a D10. Roll once per occupied territory.
Resource Value 0: - 8-10
Resource Value 1: - 7-10
Resource Value 2: - 6-10
Resource Value 3: - 5-10
Resource Value 4: - 4-10
Resource Value 5: - 3-10
Boston always 2 hits

On the Partisan table three there are more things that will happen than just increased Partisan activity. For instance if the British player slash and burns 6 cities or Boston and 4 cities this table now becomes active for Partisan activities. Or 29 non-city territories get slashed and burned. Also all territories that have NOT been slashed and burned produce +1 production points, including territories that previously held no resource value.

Partisan Table #3
Territory Roll for hit on a D10. Roll once per occupied territory.
Resource Value 0: - 6-10
Resource Value 1: - 4-10
Resource Value 2: - Always 1 hit
Resource Value 3: - Always 1 hit
Resource Value 4: - Always 1 hit
Resource Value 5: - Wlways 2 hits
Boston always 3 hits (if it is British occupied) or produces 1 infantry per turn for free if American controlled. Plus all non slash and burned territories produce +1 production point & France now enters the war on the American side if it has not done so already.

Q&A:

Q: How do I attack?
A: To attack, a player must move his or her units into a territory where there is a unit from another player.

Q: Can Infantry and Militia attack ships?
A: No, only other Ships may attack ships.

Q: What does the number on the Infantry and Ship units mean?
A: How many Infantry or Ships are there. This is done to save time, instead of you looking for 5 different ship units simply get out a ship unit with a 5 on it. This makes it easy to view for both players.

Q: Can ships attack land units?
A: NO

Q: Can British Units attack France (the homeland) or French Units attack the British Isles?
A: No. Nor may their fleet fight on any of the "offmap" boxes. British and French units can not encounter each other until they have entered the main American map areas.

Q: What are land units?
A: Land units are any unit that only moves on land such as Cannon, Militia, Infantry, Dragoons and Generals.

Q: Don’t the Forts favor the US?
A: yes, historically the US forces did go up and grab Fort Ticonderoga for their Cannon. And yes, the US side can make a Militia appear in any territory that doesn’t have a British unit on it, so it can grab the Fort on the first turn.

Q: I think your maps suck, they are wrong.
A: The boarders were not at were they are today that is for sure. I have made the maps this way for two simple reasons, one is game play the other so that people can understand where in America they really are. It would be confusing for a lot of people and might cause them to make mistakes. Not everyone knows geography well.

Q: I know the American Revolution and you are wrong.
A: You could be right, I have tried to make the best game that I can with what I have read.

Q: How come some of the questions in the FAQ are so silly?
A: You would be surprised what rules questions we are asked sometimes. lol. Just trying to cover all our bases.

Q: Starting units for France,Spain and Indains?
A: The Indian player has one infantry that he or she may place any where and then at the start of the next turn the indian player begins as normal. Spain starts with 1 infantry in Florida, this means that they had better be in a good position when the war starts. France begins with 10 ships of the line, 10 transports and 30 production each turn for the war effort in America.

Q: What happens if I’m the British and I attack Spanish Florida?
A: Both France and Spain come on the American side. The sooner the British have other things to worry about, the more likely the Americans will win. There aren't any good reasons to take Florida.

Q: Why do I have a sticker sheet and a cardboard sheet about the same size?
A: You simply take the sticker sheet and stick it to the back of the cardboard that is about the same size then cut them out on the lines so that they look like the other chits.

Q: I don’t understand what the victory contitions are?
A: For the Americans: all British units are gone from the American colonies for any 1 turn after turn 10. Or the Americans or French have taken Montreal or Quebec. For the British the victory contitions are: All American cities have been taken for 5 turns, slash and burn counts toward this. Or All American units are off the board for 2 turns.

Q: General Lafayette is a French General but he is under the Americans?
A: He IS a French General here to help train the American Army. While he is French he is under the american player to command, until the French get into the war, he then goes back to the French Player. There are two General Lafayette units, both cannot be in play at the same time and if one is killed the other cannot enter the board later. Once France enters the war, replace the American colored General Lafayette with the French colored one.

Q: What happenes when a General is killed?
A: They may not ever come back into that game, Generals are on the board until killed and when you have gone through them......they are gone for good so take care of them.
